Restorative Dentistry

Restorative and general dentistry procedures are often the first step in creation of a comprehensive smile design. Dental cavities can be diagnosed by clinical or radiographic examination and can be treated by cleaning out the decayed portion of the tooth and filling it with a tooth coloured bonded composite filling. Prevention of decay is always a better option and can be done by following a good oral hygiene program and visiting the dentist every six months.

General and restorative dentistry techniques consist of procedures such as tooth-coloured fillings, root canal therapy, and wisdom tooth extraction. Dr. Kavita is fully equipped to bring your smile up to the optimum level of health and beauty. With her charismatic personality and deep expertise, even the most intense course of treatments become relaxing and free from discomfort.

Endodontics - Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment protects the teeth which otherwise would have to be extracted.

This treatment includes the removal of the tooth's pulp, a small, thread-like tissue in the centre of the tooth. After the damaged, diseased or dead pulp is removed; the remaining space is cleaned, shaped and filled. This procedure seals off the root canal. In the absence of this technology, teeth with diseased or injured pulps were removed. Today, root canal treatment saves many teeth that would have otherwise been lost.

The most common causes of pulp damage or death are:

  • A cracked tooth
  • A deep cavity
  • An injury to a tooth, such as a severe knock to the tooth, either recent or in the past.

Once the pulp is infected or dead, if left untreated, pus can build up at the root tip in the jawbone, forming an abscess. An abscess can destroy the bone surrounding the tooth and cause pain The treated and restored tooth/teeth can last a lifetime with proper care. Because tooth decay can still occur in treated teeth, good oral hygiene and regular dental exams are necessary to prevent further problems.

The success or failure of root canal treatment can be determined with comparison of new X-rays with those taken prior to treatment. This comparison will show whether bone continues to be lost or is being regenerated.

Periodontics - Gum Treatment

Periodontal health should be achieved in the least invasive and most cost-effective manner. This is often accomplished through non-surgical periodontal treatment, including scaling and root planning (a careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus [tartar] from deep periodontal pockets and to smooth the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins). Dental scaling and polishing involve removing plaque (soft, sticky, bacteria infested film) and tartar (calculus) deposits that have built up on the teeth over time.

The teeth are covered with a sticky film of bacteria called plaque. Following a meal or snack, the bacteria release acids that attack tooth enamel. Plaque that is not removed with thorough daily brushing and cleaning between teeth can eventually harden into calculus or tartar. Brushing and cleaning between teeth become more difficult when tartar collects above the gum line. The gum tissue can become swollen or may bleed. This is called gingivitis, the early stage of periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal (gum) diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis, are serious infections that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss.

Crowns And Bridges

Dental Crowns - the Tooth Caps!

Dental Crowns or Teeth Crowns are dental restoration caps which are fitted on a portion of tooth above the gums. When teeth are heavily decayed they may be too weak to survive with just a filling. By placing a crown, a tooth may be given a new lease of life. Dental crowns are also capable of replacing missing teeth entirely. In this way dental crown becomes external surface of tooth giving it required protection and beautiful looks.

Metal Free Dental Crowns
Metal free dental crowns are becoming popular nowadays. Such crowns look very natural. With metal free dental crowns we can do restoration matching shape, the colour / shade and light transmission as same level of other teeth. I.P.S. Empress, I.P.S. e.Max, Procera Ziconia, Procera Alumina and Vita Inceram are some of the popular treatments nowadays.

Dental Bridges
Dental bridges can be supported by either natural teeth or implants. It can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. A dental bridge is a false tooth which is fused between two porcelain crowns in order to replace a missing tooth. Each dental bridge is custom made to fill in the space. If spaces are left unfilled, the surrounding teeth are liable to drift out of position. Furthermore, spaces from missing teeth can cause your other teeth and your gums to become far more susceptible to tooth decay and gum disease. In case of missing teeth, you need to discuss dental bridge procedure with the dentist.
